i always dug their album but i feel like i appreciate it more now, after spending some time away from it, than i did back in the first year or so after its release. shame we won't be getting anything else from them

What happened with Pillorian? Metal Archives says that they have split up status, no information on Facebook page, only last post came from october 2018.

Very solid band, John's vocals sound really good here. The drumming is an absolute standout here as well.

I love Agalloch but i really can't get into this. Everybody here seens to agree that The Obsidian Arc sounds like a new Agalloch album, but for me one is A and the other is Z.

Except that John also played guitar and most of the drums in Pale Folklore and The Mantle. I can clearly hear Agalloch in Pillorian.

agalloch, but with a cleaner, more 'modern' black metal sound, which i find sort of boring. agalloch were never a band central to my tastes to begin with, but i always loved seeing them live in portland and this new thing just feels to me like a stone cold slab dragged over the coffin of that whole era. obsidian arc is probably better than i'm giving it credit for, but for me it rings strangely hollow.

Just incredible. Didn't really like The Serpent and the Sphere all that much, but this is out of this world

I agree with the comment below. This sounds and feels very much like a new Agalloch album. And indeed, I wish I could stream it as such...

Obsidian Arc is really growing on me and it is an incredibly fitting name. I can't wait to see how their stuff comes out live

Yeah, just listening to it. It's amazing <3 I didn't like the last Agalloch album that much, but this is fantastic now let's see what the guys at Khorada come up with

First of all, P I L L O R I A N is a stunning band name. Secondly, "A Stygian Pyre" is a really cool song. Sounds like if Agalloch went in a slightly more blackened, dissonant route with a touch of Deathspell Omega influence. Ok, I'm officially on board with this project now!

band name immediately makes me think of the old Agalloch EP "Of Stone, Wind and Pillor"
